KOKOROKO CARRY ME HOME
London’s eight-piece collective KOKOROKO channel the greats of West Africa through a jazz-rooted approach, building on the foundations laid by Fela Kuti, Tony Allen and Ebo Taylor. The collective's brand new single 'Carry Me Home' is energetic and dancey, encapsulating the essence of summertime, bringing pure joy. It's inspired by the wonderful artist Dele Sosimi and dedicated to Julian Samuel Caulker & Alexander Bamidele Ighamre. ‘Carry Me Home’ is an afro-beat eruption, pulsing with complex rhythms, vibrant brass parts and a dancing bass line. The keyboard is gentle and modest, aiding the song's breezy atmosphere. When speaking about musical structure to Dele Sosimi, an artist who has directly informed the ver impressive KOKOROKO, Sheila Maurice-Grey, the band leader cites “Before melody or harmony, there’s rhythm,”. -Ellie Rose-Davies
